EV Charger Installation Across Chester, Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales

We install home and workplace EV chargers within roughly a 50 mile radius of Chester, covering Chester and Cheshire, the Wirral and Merseyside, Warrington, Crewe, Shrewsbury, Telford and the wider Shropshire area, and across North East Wales including Wrexham, Flintshire and Deeside. Every installation is carried out by our own NICEIC approved electricians and notified under Part P, and the distribution network operator is notified where the charger requires it.

What Does an EV Charger Installation Cost?

The three things that move the price are the distance from your consumer unit to where the charger needs to go, whether that route is surface clipped or has to go under a drive, and the condition of your existing board. Nobody can quote any of that accurately over the phone, which is why the survey is free and the quote comes after it rather than before.

7 kW or 22 kW, and What Your Supply Will Actually Take

Almost every home in this region has a single phase supply, which caps a charger at 7 kW. A 22 kW unit needs three phase, and upgrading a domestic supply to three phase is expensive and rarely worth it: 7 kW adds roughly 25 to 30 miles of range an hour, so a car plugged in at 7pm is full by morning either way. Three phase is common on commercial sites, and that is where 22 kW makes sense.

Where the existing supply is tight, we fit load management. A current transformer clamp on the incoming supply lets the charger throttle itself when the shower, oven and immersion are all running, so you get the fastest charge the house can safely give without tripping the main fuse or needing a supply upgrade.

Grants for EV Chargers

The old Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme closed to owner occupiers of houses some years ago, so most homeowners now pay in full. Two routes are still open. Renters and flat owners can claim the EV chargepoint grant, which covers a share of the installation cost. Businesses can claim under the Workplace Charging Scheme, which is a voucher per socket across a number of sockets. Both are administered by OZEV and both have had their rates and eligibility revised more than once, so we confirm what is actually available at the point of survey rather than quoting a figure that may have moved.

Charging From Your Own Solar

An EV is the largest single load most households add, and a solar array is the cheapest electricity they will ever have. A solar aware charger will prioritise surplus generation, so the car soaks up what would otherwise be exported for a few pence a unit. Charging an EV from your own generation rather than the grid or a public rapid typically saves several hundred pounds a year. Commercial and Workplace Charging

Workplace and destination charging is a different job: multiple sockets, load balancing across the site, back office software for access control and billing, and often a DNO application because the total connected load matters more than any single unit.
